VA Partial Claim Program

A foreclosure lifeline

Eligible borrowers with VA-backed loans may be evaluated by their mortgage servicer for a Partial Claim when they are behind or at imminent risk of falling behind. It may help bring the loan current while generally deferring repayment of the partial-claim amount until payoff, refinance, or sale.

  • Contact your mortgage servicer. The servicer must review your circumstances and determine whether you qualify.
  • Eligibility varies. Act early if you are worried about missing a payment.
04

VA Loan Modification

A more manageable payment

A VA-backed loan modification may incorporate missed payments and eligible costs into the loan balance and adjust the loan terms to create a more manageable payment.

  • Exact options and eligibility depend on your circumstances and your servicer’s review.
  • Ask your mortgage servicer about available home-retention options as soon as possible.

A note on these resources: This information is for general education only. Program availability and eligibility can change. Confirm current details with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and your mortgage servicer.
